What are the lost futures which haunt abandoned architecture of yesterday’s tomorrow?
The Wellington House was built in 1936, a Streamlined Moderne bungalow designed by Singapore modernist Ho Kwong Yew on a hill overlooking the city. However after the passing of the family patriarch, the house was left uninhabited, later becoming a hostel postwar before its final abandonment sometime in the 1970s. Since then it begun its slow decline, being inhabited by construction workers, and visited by urban explorers and ghost hunters. It exists in a time warp in modern Singapore. The buildings are vestiges of the past being in the present, in a limbo between the past and future, awaiting a future that did not arrive, while representing a past which had since moved on without them.
Recreated in a digital space of a life simulation game, the house is available for exploring once again with greater agency and infinite possibilities. A spectre of a spectre, a lost futures of lost futures
